Our eggs come from chooks living the way you might imagine a chook would want to live. Like our sheep and cows our chooks live in the paddocks, enjoying the freedom of the outdoors with uninterrupted access to their natural vegetation. Uncooped our Happy healthy chooks relish an open environment, free to roam, engaging in their natural behaviours of foraging and scratching for insects, bugs and seeds , dust bathing, and preening themselves. The Sustainable regeneration of pasture and soil improvement is managed by low stocking rates, only 27 chooks per hectare, and the use of mobile housing, enabling frequent movement of chooks to a fresh pasture, ensuring natural foraging is always accessable. Manure is produced as a natural fertilizer for Soil enrichment which is happily spread by scratching chooks. Our Maremma dogs, Toby and Caesar keep our chooks safe by deterring predators, while the mobile housing also provides for shelter from the elements throughout the day and protection at night.
Pastured eggs are bursting with flavour boasting, a richer colour and texture because of the plentiful access the chooks have to natural foods in their environment. Production of a pastured egg is kinder to the chooks and the environment, with the chooks frequently moving around the paddocks, foraging, scratching and fertilizing the soil, regenerating the land. Our eggs are hand collected and happy chooks have the space to express their personalities and engage in natural behaviours that are unavailable to some other methods of egg production. We value our chooks uniqueness and engagement in the outdoors, and our holistic approach means we sustainably produce eggs that taste the way you imagine they should.
